Sometimes it’s tough to tell if a plumbing problem is serious enough to call a plumber under emergency conditions. So we thought we’d provide a helpful list to make the going a little easier.
SEWAGE PROBLEMS:
A sewage problem is always an emergency if you have standing or flowing sewage in your home. Some sewage carries lethal or at the very least pathogens that can make you very sick, even by just breathing them in. Call us immediately day or night and get the cause of the problem eliminated.
While most insurance companies won’t pay to have the cause eliminated, they WILL pay to have the damage repaired. Yes! Our partner will also dry out walls, carpets and hardwood floors to mitigate damages. They will also contact and work with your insurance company to insure the problem is covered and you have minimal expense..
If you simply have a clogged sink, tub or toilet and the problem seems to be confined to that one fixture, the problem can wait until regular business hours to be serviced.
If any sewage overflowed, just be sure to clean it up immediately and sanitize with any commercially available sanitizing cleaner. Do not allow anyone to use the fixture until we can get the drain cleared.
If the problem is in a basement and you have an overhead system (ejector pump) simply refrain from using it until we can come out and fix it. Again, if you clean up and sanitize the area, you can wait for plumbing service during regular business hours.
WATER PROBLEMS
If you have a burst pipe or bad leak, see if you can locate and shut off the water to the affected fixture. If that fails, find the house shut-off valve and turn it off. Once the water is under control, you can schedule a time during regular business hours to have the problem fixed. Yes! On the other hand if you can’t find, don’t know how to, or the valve in question doesn’t work, you have a bonafide plumbing emergency and you need to schedule plumbing emergency service right away in order to keep the damage to a minimum.
A dripping or running faucet, while not technically an emergency, can cause you to have a seriously high water bills with water rates climbing quickly in our area. We’ve had several clients with monthly water bills that were over $700.00 due to plumbing leaks. We would consider that to be an emergency, but not of the health and property threatening type.
